Who are we and what do we do?

Omaha Corporate Cup Run

This year,
we had the privilege of helping transport Victims of Hurricane Katrina to the Civic Auditorium as part of  Project Heartland Helping Hands.

Heartland REACT was formed in 1969 and incorporated in 1972 as a non-profit, (501(c)3)tax exempt organization.

REACT primarily works as an extension of local Emergency Management and National Weather Service. It's primary purpose is dedicated to

public safety in all types of situations.  We also help with Heart

Walk, Omaha Corporate Cup Run, Offutt Air Show, Corporate Cycling Challenge, various parades and many other events in a 40 mile radius.
Although these many of these events are non-emergent, we are able to help those who have emergency needs by providing radio contact with the event coordinators.

Heartland REACT is the home of the SKYWARN Weather Spotters who are "on-duty" 24 hours a day during severe weather season. Whenever severe weather is eminent for the area, the Spotter Network is activated by the National Weather Service through the Team's Weather Officer. Within minutes of the initial call, the team is out and rolling to Watch-points throughout Douglas, Sarpy, and Saunders Counties. A REACT Spotter was the first to report the May, 1975 Tornado which enabled Civil Defense to sound the sirens soon enough to give citizens those extra few precious seconds to get to safety. Spotters put their lives on the line each and every time they go out.

Presently, there are 46 active volunteer members of Heartland REACT who volunteer year around. If you are interested in becoming a member, click on the "Contact US" link to the left of this screen.

Heartland REACT also has a Search and Rescue Unit ready to assist law enforcement agencies, a wintertime 4x4 patrol, and a bicycle safety unit all within its organization.
